Deleting my PhD thesis a week before it was due to be handed in and in days before you could get a 1GB USB memory stick for £1 – indeed a 1GB disk didn’t exist then – a 0.5 GB disk was about £2500.
I was amazed to see Cliff Richard near a museum in Paris. Something inside me made me shout his name as loud as possible and then run up to him. I ended up looking at him and only at that moment realised I had nothing to say. I said something like ‘oooh, it IS you!’ before wanting the earth to swallow me up and get me out of this painful situation.
I’ve fallen down the escallator at a big department store in York. I somehow managed to misjudge the step and fell over. Hilarious but painful. Have you checked out my huge bruise on my profile page?
I’ve also managed to get my high heel caught in a bridge but this wasn’t just any bridge. It was at graduation and hundreds of people were using the same bridge. It was hilarious… I couldn’t move.
Recently, I was fairly dumb on the way to work and drove into the back of someone’s car in a queue of traffic – duh!
I’ve also done dumb things like deciding to see how flammble ethanol actually (it really does light very easily!) – we did not have a happy lab manager that day!!!
When I was 11 I got run over by a Safeway’s lorry. That was pretty dumb – though I don’t think it was entirely my fault!
From a science perspective, I have done some really dumb things, like getting to the end of a really long purification process (maybe 2 weeks work) , where I have 2 colourless liquids and throwing the wrong one away!! That awful feeling when you literally watch 2 weeks work go down the drain……..
I should really leave commenting to the students, but can’t help myself- I’m laughing myself silly after reading these 🙂 Thanks for sharing scientists!
