I would let you guys vote on how I would spend the money. But I think I am supposed to spend it on science communication, so I am not sure how I can make buying a PlayStation 3 really fall into that category!

What I would like to do, is develop a science club at the university of Yale, where I will be heading in September. I was judging a Nation Science competition last week, and was so inspired by scientists of your age group, I think that it is really important to help and encourage young people in science.

In bringing students into UCL’s Physics and Astronomy Department to do experiments that they wouldn’t get chance to do at GSCE/A-level ie the experiments that our undergraduate students do e.g. imaging materials with a scanning tunneling microscope, measuring the lifetime of a muon…

If I won the money I would buy more kit for my outreach work with nursery age children. We do handwashing experiments with cool UV gels (only visible under certain lamps) and I also show the kids what germs look like using giant cuddly bugs (http://www.sciencematters.biz/store/giant-microbes)
I’d love to buy more of everything to carry out more workshops

I’d let you guys decide on the sort of cool science stuff you’d like in schools. Then I’d buy it and loan it out to you to try out.

Kind of like a groovy science library but you could talk as loud as you want in my library. I’d even let you shout.

Got any ideas of what sciencey stuff you’d want?
